The results will be immediately fed into the Palike’s website, which will be accessible only to the officials. The same information will be flashed on a display board at the Palike head office.

The BBMP, however, is not very sure of putting up the results on its specially created website http://bbmp.gov.in/ bbmp-election as it was still running trials on Monday, said Assistant Commissioner (Elections) Mallikarjun.  The State Election Commission will display the results only after it is obtained from the BBMP.

Once the results are announced and gazetted, the regional commissioner will invite the single-largest party to hold the reins. The process has to be concluded within a month after the results are declared.

In the first meeting of the council, the mayor, deputy mayor and chairpersons of 12 standing committees have to be elected. The two national parties — BJP and Congress — have to win a minimum of 100 seats of the total 198 wards to have their mayor and deputy mayor.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already opened its account by winning one ward unopposed as the nomination of Congress candidate was rejected. The Congress, which is in power in Karnataka, is hoping to recapture the BBMP from the BJP.

Live: BBMP election results

A long, winding journey that started six months ago with uncertainty, political debate and court cases over splitting of the BBMP will culminate on Tuesday when votes of the August 22 polls will be counted across the city.
Though voters seem less-than-enthused – just 49 per cent turned up at polling booths on Saturday – candidates and major political parties will be holding their breath.

The Bharatiya Janata Party won 100 seats and reached a simple majority in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections. Other major parties in the fray are the Congress and the JD(S).
