Kumbh Mela is one of the most sacred Hindu Festival that is celebrated in four places in India - namely Nasik (Trimbak), Ujjain, Haridwar and Allahabad(Prayag). This year the Kumbh Mela will be held in Ujjain in Madhya Prades, and this is Poorna Kumbh Mela. Poorna Kumbh Mela is held in every 12 years. 

Simhasth or Ujjain Kumbh Mela is a major celebration in India. It is held on the banks of Kshipra river in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh spanning from 22nd April 2016 to 21st May, 2016.

ARRANGEMENTS OF WESTERN RAILWAY

Railway has provided wide spread facilities to passengers coming to Ujjain to attend Simhastha from April 22 to May 21, 2016. Besides significant works have also been undertaken at Ujjain and nearby railway station.

In view of massive number of devotees expected to attend Simhastha, a number of passenger facilities have been sanctioned at Ujjain Railway Station and adjoining stations such as Nagda, Vikramnagar, Kshipra, Bridge, Fatehabad, Naikheri, Chintaman Ganesh, Pingleshwar, Indore, Ratlam, Pawasa, Mohanpura etc. Some of the works have been completed and others are in progress. Several works have been completed at Ujjain Railway station.

MUMBAI - 14 MEMU KUMBH MELA SPECIAL TRAINS 2016

Western Railway announced that 14 MEMU Rakes have been withdrawn from service of Mumbai suburban section and utilized for running as mela special trains from Ujjain. The trains already started from 14.04.2016, and will run upto 28.05.2016. Following are the details.

About Ujjain


The city of Lord Mahakal is known by several names in Vedas and Puranas. The word ‘Avanti’ has been repeatedly surfaced in the verses of Vedas. Another name Ujjayini has emerged in the sutra “Striyamwanti Kurubhyashcha” of great scholar Panini. The city was named after King Kartveeryarjun’s son Avanti which was later called as Avantika, Avantipuri, Avanti Nagri or Avantikapuri. The city had been called as Vishala due to its large area. The city was also called as Padmavati due to its grand places and prosperity.
